How To Prepare For The Board

Master the pediatric board exams and gain crucial updates in pediatrics. The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) board-certifying exam is a crucial step in your pediatric career. It is conducted annually, typically in October. The exam tests your comprehensive knowledge of pediatrics, ensuring you are well-prepared for real-world clinical scenarios.

Read the Pediatric Board Study Guide: A Last-Minute Review thoroughly multiple times throughout your residency, or any other trusted pediatric text of your choice.

Simulate the test-taking experience by answering timed questions.

Read the critiques/explanations after each question, including the PREP Pearls at the end of each question.

Read the new articles in Pediatrics in Review and answer their CME questions.

Two to three months before the exam, read the Pediatric Board Study Guide one more time.

One week prior the exam, read for one final time Chap. 33, the Last-Minute Review: reviewing over 2000 high yield clinical case scenarios and provides quick answers.

The board examination consists of 330 to 350 multiple-choice questions, each offering five possible response options. The exam is divided into four sections, allowing you to tackle the material in manageable portions. You’ll also be able to take optional scheduled breaks between each section to maintain focus and energy throughout the exam.

To pass the ABP board examination, you must achieve a scaled score of 180 or higher. This score reflects your proficiency in pediatric knowledge and readiness to practice as a certified pediatrician.

If you are feeling overwhelmed with the limited time before the exam, don't worry. Focusing on Chapter 33 in our study guide can help you efficiently study more than 2000 crucial pieces of material for the pediatric board exam. Have any questions or need further guidance?
